Unix Reference: Add User To A Group
usermod
-a -G GID1,GID2,…GIDn USERNAME
USERNAME must already exist
The one or more GIDs must already exist
Omitting the
-a
will first remove the user from all groups except their login group and then add them to groups GIDs.
